We are not blind!

Government in Bucharest decided to replace Mr. Daniel Morar, head of national anti-corruption directorate. Official reason why he should leave his office is that national government needs him on the post of special “liaison“ in Brussels. He would be responsible for mediating dialogue between European Commission and Romanian Government.

The reality is that no member state has its special envoy in Brussels next to European Commission. On the other hand, all professionals working in Brussels speak English or French. Mr. Morar speaks non of those ones. And the third important thing – according the Romanian Prime Minister, new “liaison” “will have to maintain dialogue with the EU executive regarding Romania’s justice-related commitments so that monitoring of the country’s judiciary can be lifted within a year“ (source: EurActiv.com).

I see it like this: Romanian PM wants to eliminate anti-corruption icon and to cancel EC’s annual monitoring of his country at the same time. We are not blind, Mr. Popescu Tariceanu! We observe your intention. European Commission stopped subsidies for Romanian agricultural sector because of low progress in fight against corruption. I welcome this step. Mr. PM, I am afraid that there would be some other restrictions for you country, if you will continue to pull leg of ours.

Stop do that, please, and fulfill the promises your country gave EU before its entry dated on 1st January 2007. Maybe you think that EU membership was the run to the finish, but it’s just the beginning…

    hello, michal hudec!
great article, even if i did not know details about the issue! but it seems very insightful! at least U seem to look through the typical bucharest-style politics of cheating and lying for the purpose of stealing (including EU and EU officials)!

for long time it seemed to me that the west can’t even imagine how highly developed the art of lying, cheating and stealing is in our country (and in the balkan “hemisphere”), but fortunately people form further west of romania start to understand how the game goes!

will come back on your page asap, recommending U meanwhile my own EU-ROMANIA related comments on http://www.euromania.blogactiv.eu and http://www.structuralfunds.wordpress.com.

best wishes from the country of …euromania!

    Well done Miso.

One question. How did the Romanian blogosphere react to M. Daniel Morar replacement? And what about Romanian journalists?

    Thx.
